In this episode of Dive Charter, I wanted to do a follow-up episode on the war on lionfish and whether or not what divers were doing was making a difference since our last lionfish episode. While creating this episode, we learned about local retailers that had started selling lionfish…
In this episode of Dive Charter, I wanted to do show what the dive boats had to do to get ready for a hurricane. We all know that hurricanes cause a lot of damage on land, but I also wanted to show viewers how much damage can happen underwater!
As a way to introduce the dive boat and crew for the pilot episode, I had an idea to follow someone as they did their Open Water SCUBA course. I spread the word, and my friend Pam Dino said she was interested in doing it. She was a trooper as cameras followed her from the day she walked into the dive shop, to her last ladder exit on the dive boat…
In deciding what to do for Episode 2, I realized we were approaching lobster season and, knowing the kinds of crazy things that occur during the mad rush of Mini-Season, decided to showcase how the crew handles lobster hunters and other boats in order to keep everyone safe….
In Episode 3, I wanted to showcase the problem we are having locally with the increasing numbers of lionfish on the reefs. We talked to various personnel on the front lines in the battle against lionfish, and we even heard about a place in Key Largo that has them on the menu…
For Episode 4 I had an idea to showcase some of the area’s wreck diving, and to tell the stories of how a couple of those wrecks were placed on the ocean floor. We found a couple of men who were involved in prepping the wrecks and they told us quite a few entertaining stories….
For Episode 5 I wanted to show a little-known side of SCUBA diving: disabled or “Adaptive” diving. For many disabled divers, there’s nothing like leaving gravity for a while and enjoying the underwater world. We talked to 2 people instrumental in adaptive diving programs and also heard from the specially-trained adaptive diver buddies.
